There are 3 Thai words commonly used to express something breaking or failing, depending on the what broke and how it broke.

พัง (pung) means to break or to be broken, usually in the sense of something physical breaking, failing or not working. For example, you might say "กระจก พัง" (tora-sap pung, phone break ie not working).

หัก (hak) means to cut or to break off. It can also refer to deducting or subtracting something. For example, you might say "ขาหัก" (kar hak, leg broken).

แตก (daek) means to split or to break apart, often in the sense of something being divided or separated. For example, you might say "ไข่แตก" (kai daek, egg broken).
